Helping to Hide Ukraine from Russian Drones

In Western Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region, we are producing camouflage nets with the help of local volunteers. As of now, four schools are involved in this important effort.

Throughout the year, we have worked hard to meet the requests from frontline units for camouflage nets. During the summer, only one school in Zakarpattia was producing nets—now there are four, where production is actively underway.
Each 4 × 6 meter net takes about 4–6 days to complete by a team of school volunteers.

Why Camouflage Nets Matter

A camouflage net is a critical safety tool in today’s war, where information is the battlefield. Drones constantly monitor the terrain, gathering intelligence on the location of military equipment and personnel.

Well-camouflaged positions make it significantly harder for the enemy to detect and target Ukrainian forces or civilians. That can save lives.

How the Nets Are Made

Each net starts with a mesh base into which strips of special fabric are carefully woven by hand, using color schemes that match seasonal terrain:

  • Green for spring and summer

  • Brown and yellow for autumn

  • White for snowy winter conditions

A 4 × 6 meter net is large enough to conceal a vehicle. Larger equipment can be hidden by combining multiple nets.
